Redeemer was planted in December, 2007 by 3 men who had been on staff at an area church together, along with an initial group of men and women in whom God planted a desire to see a church family where the Triune God is proclaimed as He is revealed in the Scriptures, where a group of people respond to the gospel of Jesus with lives marked by worship, and where the driving passion of the church is to see God glorified through gospel mission to Tomball and, ultimately, the entire world.
Planting a church without a lead teaching pastor and without a facility proved to be both difficult and a tremendous blessing. With no permanent facility, Redeemer was forced to decentralize ministry. Though the Sunday gathering was central for the church family, and has twice outgrown facilities, people have nonetheless been compelled to meet in homes and small groups. This has created a culture of people who intimately care for and live out the gospel with one another.
For over 2 years (until August 2010), the church was led by a leadership team, which included a team of preachers and teachers within the body. Through this, God taught the Redeemer family to not wholly depend upon one leader. Rather, we committed ourselves to first be led by Jesus, our chief shepherd, and second, by a plurality of Godly men. Also, this led many to step forward and use their gifts. God has blessed Redeemer with many gifted men and women who desire to serve Christ and His church.
On August 8, 2010, Redeemer named Jeff Medders to be the church's first lead pastor. Jeff served as the college pastor and part of the teaching team for the first 2+ years of the church and, since becoming the Lead Pastor, his leadership and teaching has been a blessing to the church.
Joining Jeff to lead Redeemer since 2010 has been our first team of elders. Along with Jeff, this group includes Kevin Bowles, who has served the church as the Executive Pastor since 2008. Also, two lay leaders from within the body, Barry Pett & Steve Egloff were installed to join Jeff and Kevin as elders on November 21, 2010. Our Elders have been God’s grace to Redeemer and we look forward to how the Lord will continue to use them to lead us.
Over the first year 6 years, despite being a church still in it's infancy, working to establish leadership and direction... God has graciously blessed us by bringing much fruit. We have seen many saved, baptized, and discipled. We’ve seen many students and adults go around the world on mission, and many others growing and maturing in their love, knowledge, and service of King Jesus.
In late 2010, the Lord led us to our first facility and to join the Acts 29 church planting network. And in 2012, we began a church planting residency program as a means of equipping future church planters and pastors. We pray that through this, the Holy Spirit might allow us to plant many churches as we seek to raise up Godly leaders by making disciples and making much of Jesus.
Praise God for His faithfulness!
"Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen." -- Eph. 3:20-21
