Redeemer was planted in December, 2007 by 3 men who had served as staff members together at an area church together, along with an initial group of 80 men and women. God had given us a desire to see a church family where the Triune God is proclaimed as He is revealed in the Scriptures, where people are saved and changed by the gospel of Jesus, where God is glorified through Christ-centered ministry to one another, and where God's people are sent out as missionaries to Tomball and, ultimately, the entire world.
Planting a church with no lead teaching pastor and no facility proved to be both difficult and a blessing. With no permanent facility, the church family learned to view ministry as something beyond merely Sunday morning. Though our gathering remains central for our church and has twice outgrown facilities, people are committed to meeting in homes and small groups. This has created a culture of people who intimately care for and live out the gospel with one another.
For the first 2 years, Redeemer was by a leadership team, including a team of preachers within the body. The Lord used this to encourage us to not depend wholly on one leader; rather, to follow first, the leadership of Jesus, our chief shepherd, and second, a plurality of Godly men. This also led to many stepping forward and use their gifts to serve the church.
On August 8, 2010, Redeemer nominated our first 4 Elders -- Jeff Medders, Kevin Bowles, Barry Pett & Steve Egloff. Jeff was chosen, that same Sunday, to serve as the church's first lead pastor. He had previously served as our college minister and as part of the teaching team. His teaching and leadership are a blessing to our church. Kevin served as the Executive Pastor beginning in 2008 and leads us in worship through song. Since these original 4, the Elder team has expanded to a team of 5, which now also includes Brad Smith and Skip Richter. We believe godly church leadership is a blessing to the local church and we have experienced such grace through the leadership of the Redeemer Elders.
In late 2010, the Lord led us to purchase our first facility and to join the Acts 29 church planting network. In 2012, we began a pastoral residency program and experienced the joy of sending Pastor Richard Hutto and several other families to start King's Church in Conroe in 2014. In December of 2014, we purchased 10 acres at the corner of Baker Dr. & Brown-Hufsmith Rd. in Tomball. If God would be so gracious, we pray that He might use this land, along with the many gifts and resources He has given us, to leverage this land for His glory in Tomball.
Over the first year 10 years of Redeemer, God's faithful love has been on display. We have seen many saved and baptized. We've seen members sent locally and around the world to proclaim the gospel, and many who are simply growing and maturing in their love, knowledge, and service of King Jesus.
May many more come to believe and follow Jesus. May our homes be filled with the teaching and worship of Jesus. May many be sent from the Redeemer family to plant gospel-saturated churches. And may we continue to make disciples and make much of Jesus in Tomball and beyond for as long as the Lord allows.
Praise God for His faithfulness!
"Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen." -- Eph. 3:20-21
